Book #38 of 2020 | Who We Are and How We Got Here by David Reich

Title: Who We Are and How We Got Here: Ancient DNA and the New Science of the Human Past

Author: David Reich

Thoughts: I’m not really sure what drew me to this audiobook, since I really don’t know anything about genetics. This is definitely a book about genetics, but it also delves deeply into so many other topics: history, anthropology, archaeology, sociology, and more! It’s a little dense and a little dry at times, but the author does a good job of removing a lot of scientific jargon and making these complex topics easier to understand. Reich also addresses the fact that genetics has been used—by Nazi scientists, among others—to make claims about races based on their genetic makeup, and makes it clear that these claims are based on nothing but overtly racist and sexist pseudoscience.
