Title: Evvie Drake Starts Over
Author: Linda Holmes
Thoughts: There are exactly three things in this dumpster fire of 2020 that have made me believe in true love: the book Beach Read, Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe getting engaged, and this book right here. It’s cute and perfect, with cute and perfectly imperfect characters. It’s nuanced and real. It’s sweet and adorable and honestly, just curl up on the couch with a blanket and read it. It’ll make you happy.
Favorite Lines:
“…her life had a lot of ‘just in case’ in it…” (p. 3)
“She kept whatever made her good memories occupy space.” (p. 49)
“It was possible for things to get better when it felt like they couldn’t. It was possible for things that seemed doomed to be revived. This was why people kept rooting for the Red Sox and the Cubs until they finally won. It was why people who didn’t care about speed skating knew about Dan Jansen, who fell at the Calgary Olympics after he found out his sister had died. People rooted for him until he won a gold medal six years later, simply because they wanted to believe there was hope.” (p. 236)
“In the months without him, she’d forgotten and somehow not forgotten at the same time; it was like hearing the first lyrics of a song and realizing you can sing all the rest.” (p. 277)
